The deep inner workings of a beggar's mind

How does one describe the joy of the Lord?

It is a deep, wonderful burning,

An exceedingly bright, exponentially brightening light

Which engulfs all sense of darkness and pain.

A wonderful peace, a loving touch,

A warm embrace, the strongest love,

Constantly offering hope in the midst of hopelessness.

A prolific, profound euphoria,

Which banishes the deepest of all depression.

It is a single dark cloud

In the midst of the hottest, driest desert.

The greatest of all comforts.

The most powerless feeling,

Knowing nothing you could have done would have changed the Father’s love.

Death, the great reuniter.

Old friends long gone are seen again,

Blending past with future.

It is the key which unlocks a new stage of life,

Ethereal, unique.

It is a quiet sleep,

Unavoidable, unyielding.

The boundary between a mere flicker of a lifetime,

And a boundless eternity.

The final journey of mankind.

The largest hilltop in life itself.

The most daunting of ships

That everyone must board.

It leaves nothing in its wake but memories and images.

One cannot take anything with them,

Once their empty shell lies in the ground.

The spirit, finally separate from its mortal frame

Heads on its final trek,

Down a broad road to a burning pit

Or a narrow one to a shining shore.

Which path lies before you?
