The deep inner workings of a beggar's mind

This Friday is, of course, the 4th of July, aka Independence Day. It is a day we celebrate the freedom we are blessed with every day of the year. It marks the date of the signing of the Declaration of Independence that states we are no longer under British rule, but our own separate entity. It is also a day we celebrate the memory of those who bought this freedom with their precious blood. Amidst all the celebration, however, we tend to overlook the most precious of all blood ever spilt: the blood of Jesus, Who is the Christ. Through His death (and resurrection) our sin-debt was paid in full, blessing us with the greatest freedom ever offered: freedom from the bondage of sin and death. Should we not also be celebrating this most glorious of all gifts on this day? Without His sacrifice, we would still be under the dominion of sin and darkness, much like our nation would still be under British rule without the sacrifice of the brave Patriots who gave their lives to win us the glorious independence we celebrate. Freedom is NEVER cheap, and I for one am thankful that someone was, and still is, willing to pay that price. This Independence Day, be sure to say a prayer of thanksgiving to Christ for what He’s done, and also one of protection for our soldiers who are over in foreign lands now facing the same threat that those selfless Patriots of old did and conquered.  Have a great Independence Day, and God bless America!
